Are you ready to prioritize your self-care? New offering at Kundalini Yoga in Detroit!

It’s a New Year - and a great time for new beginnings! Have you made any resolutions? What are your priorities for 2024?

Self-care was a “word of the year” in 2023 (and in 2022 and 2018, and….), but how many of us really acted on the trend in a truly meaningful way?

Trends come and go, but the importance of self-care as a key factor in our health, well-being and quality of life is well documented - and for any of us who haven’t yet prioritized self-care, maybe 2024 can be our year!

Self-care, above all, is a relationship with yourself. Like any relationship, trust is the #1 foundation. To be sustainable, you need to be able to trust yourself to keep the promises you make to yourself.

Trust provides us a solid foundation under our feet, helps ground us in our root chakra, which represents security, and is the necessary first step in balancing all our other chakras and everything else. With a strong foundation of trust, security and grounding, you are empowered to thrive, reach further, feel, do and enjoy more.

At its best, self-care sets you up for success in every area of your life:  you are working toward optimizing your physical health, your personal care regimen, your mental and emotional wellbeing — and reaching toward those long-term goals, achieving key milestones along the way.

Sometimes we trip ourselves up by setting the bar and our expectations too high, and when a milestone doesn’t come on the artificial timetable we’ve set for ourselves, we can experience disappointment and even feelings of hopelessness.

Like most good things in life, the key is consistency. Never giving up on ourselves sometimes requires modifying our approach. Another great way to help ensure your success is to have support. At Kundalini Yoga in Detroit, building a supportive, uplifting community is part of our DNA.

The deeper beauty of trusting yourself is that the power rests entirely in your hands. You can start small. If someone asks or expects you to work late again, or handle a task you’ve been stuck with too long when others could easily pitch in, you can let them know you have a prior commitment. If that’s a commitment you’ve made to yourself, you might find a voice inside thanks you for sticking up for yourself, valuing your time and energy. And you can re-channel that energy and time you’ve gained into building up your personal power and mental, emotional and physical strength.

Almost like magic, that energy reserve inside you starts to replenish - and over time those small decisions add up to big changes.

You have the right to be happy, healthy, self-determined and glowing with vibrant, positive energy - aware of the unique gifts you bring to the table, and able to contribute them with joy.

If that sounds great to you, we invite you to make this commitment to yourself and join us the first & third Sunday of the month for #SelfCareSunday at Kundalini Yoga in Detroit, for 90 minutes of blissful self-care - including:

  • A mixture of kundalini and hatha yoga to build your physical strength & flexibility, and open energy channels in the body

  • Pranayama and other breathing exercises designed to energize you, build up your aura and shore up your boundaries with a strong arc line

  • Acupressure self-massage techniques to ease tension and break up stored negative energy in muscles and soft tissues
